What do we not yet know? What do you think will happen based on the events that occurred in the first book?
What we don't know yet from the book is where Voldemort went off too, and we don't know that much about Snape or the connection between Snape and Voldemort. We don't know much about the Weasley's or the Grangers. Why Dumbledore is helping Harry so often. Finally, how did Voldemort get into the big picture of the Potters, what made him choose the dark side, was he a person before? The deal with Dumbledore or Voldemort.

Chapter 15 Journal
When Ronan tells Harry, “the forest holds many secrets,” what do you think he means? What do you think the planets are predicting that causes Firenze to hope they are being read incorrectly?
When Ronan tells Harry, "the forest holds many secrets," I think he is trying to hint Hagrid and the first-years that the forest holds many different creatures and that many things did and will happen in the forest that is not a call for good.
I think the planets are predicting that it's not time for Harry to die or get hurt yet. That the time will come later on, just not now, that the planets are wrong.

"Softy for a pet" Chapter 14
Chapter 14 Journal
Hagrid seems to be very attached to Norbert. Consider the description of Hagrid’s behaviour in Chapter 14 and explain what we can learn about Hagrid as a person through his relationship with his pet. Have you ever met anyone who is a “little crazy” over his/her pet?
Hagrid seemed to be very attached to the dragon. It's amazing that a big, twelve-foot man, like Hagrid, could be such a softy towards a pet that he hasn't even had for more than a few weeks.
Like Harry, Ron and Hermione, I know someone who is is alittle crazy over their pet. This person, I
live with. She's my Aunt, she absolutely adored her pet. This pet was a cat. The cat was named Blakii. My Aunt loved this cat so much. She treated the cat as if it was her own child. When I first went to her house, I was amazed with what she did for the cat to keep it happy and comfortable. Like Hagrid and his pet, my Aunt has a similar attachment with her pet, the cat.

Chapter 13
Chapter 13 Journal
If i was an immortal, things would be very interesting, yet it would be boring. Living forever isn't something i would like to experience. But i would try and probably get the best education and become rich. I'd live on a low-profile to keep my identity secrete but own a business that is organized and have it set also on a low-profile (example, the Rothschild's). If i owned an object that could turn metal into gold i would touch everything in sight and make millions, it would change my life, because i would be extremely rich. With the gold and metal, along with my everlasting life. I would be a ritch, greedy person. Tempted to make more and more. Living forever and having all the money in the world will not help me become a better person. One pro to own the Philosopher's stone would be the wealth in the Philosopher's stone and being immortal. One con, being immortal can be boring. I'd rather live my life and die old.

Snape’s Potion Lesson.
In chapter eight of Harry Potter and the Philosophers stone, Snape dislikes Gryffindor. Firstly, Snape blames Harry for Neville’s accident. Neville was mixing potions and managed to melt a potion into a twisted blob which melted all over the stone floor, and then Snape yelled at Harry for Neville’s own accident. Secondly, Snape showed that he liked Slytherin best, rather then Gryffindor. When Snape was teaching the potion lesson he would criticize Gryffindor (mostly Harry) and not Slytherin. Thirdly, Snape seemed to favour Malfoy. When Snape was judging Harry as bad, he would seem to always like Malfoy who was in Slytherin. In conclusion, Snape seems to be cruel and judgemental man.

Journal nine, Harry Potter
Chapter 9 Journal Question:
Who does Harry dislike more: Dudley Dursley or Draco Malfoy? Why? Explain your answer with at least 3 reasons.
One of the reasons why Harry dislikes Draco more than Dudley because Draco thinks he’s better then Harry. Secondly, Draco always tries to get Harry in trouble. Lastly, because he tried getting Harry kicked out of the team of Quiddich as well as Hogwards.

Chapter 7 Journal:
What does Harry dream about on his first night at Hogwarts? Examine the description of the dream on page 97 and summarize the most important parts of this dream. What do you think the dream means?
Harry dreamt about wearing Professor Quirrell's turban, which kept talking to him, telling him he must switch to Slytherin at once because he was meant to be there. Harry tried taking the turban off but he could and as he tried pulling it off Malfoy was laughing at his struggles. He also saw Professor Snape whose laughing high and cold, then a burst of green light all of a sudden Harry awoke.

Chapter 5 journal
Chapter 5 journal.
Harry encounters many strange people and places in Diagon Alley. Which of these characters did you find the most interesting? Why? Which store in Diagon Alley would you most like to visit? Explain your answer.
The most interesting character in chapter 5 would be Mr. Ollivander. I like this character because he is a wand sellsman and because the story behind finding Harry's wand was interesting. I like the fact he has a passion for selling wands to wizards. He was patient when looking for Harry's wand. When Mr. Ollivander found his wand, Mr. Ollivander told Harry that the wand that chose him is Voldemort's brother wand.
The store i would like to visit the most would be Mr. Ollivander's wand shop. Only because it would be interesting to find a wand and to talk to him and find out more about Diagon Alley.

Hagrid: Character Traits
Through out chapters 1-5 of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, I found many
character traits for one of the characters Hagrid. One of the first character traits i found in Hagrid was that
Hagrid is a trustworthy. Professor Dumbledore trusts Hagrid to go alone to find Harry Potter and to get him
prepared for school at Hogwards school of Wizardry. The second character trait i found in Hagrid was that
he is strong. During chapter 3 Hagrid broke into the Dursley’s cabin on the island by ripping off the
cabin door. The third and last character trait i found in Hagrid was that he is caring. When Mrs. McGonagall
and Dumbledore dropped Harry off, Hagrid became teary eyed and didn't want to let Harry go, which was
a sign he cared for Harry. In conclusion Hagrid has many character traits.

Chapter 3: Journal Question
Uncle Vernon seems to be going crazy throughout chapter 3. Explain the reason for his madness and identify at least 3 examples from chapter 3 that demonstrate his strange behaviour.
Uncle Vernon was becoming paranoid from all the letters Harry was recieving and from where the letter were coming from. He started nailing the post-box, which in Vernons case was a great idea, the letters still getting through then Vernon though a "vacation" to no-where would do the trick; but it didn't. Each day Harry was recieving more letters even at the motel so Uncle Vernon borowed a boat to go sail off to a old house that was musty and old. Through out chapter 3, Vernon goes crazy because he is convinced someone or something is following him.

Harry Potter Journal Chapter 2.
Chapter 2: Journal Question
How do you think Harry’s life would have been different if his parents were still alive?
I think Harry's life would be different if his parents were alive because he would grow up with a loving family and be treated better. He would know why strange things happen to him.
Consider the description of Harry’s life with the Dursleys in chapter 2 and identify how his life would be specifically changed if he had not been left on the doorstep of number
4 Privet Drive
.
His life would not be as abusive and horrible as it is now. He would of found out about wizards and wickens etc. He would learn about himself more and know why strange things happen to him. He wouldn't be mistreated because he's "special".

Harry Potter Chapter 1 Journal.
Chapter 1 Journal Question:
Who is Harry Potter and why is he so special? Why does Dumbledore, knowing that Harry won’t be welcomed or treated well, leave him with the Dursleys? Include information from Chapter 1 to support your answer.
Harry Potter was known to be special because he was left alive when Voltmort killed his parents. Voltmort couldn't kill Harry because there was something about him, something special that needed to be defeated later on in Harry's life. As a reminder of Voltmort's presence, he has lighning bolt-shaped scar on his forhead.
Dumbledore has left Harry with the Dursley's for Harry's sake of growing up with a normal family. He didn't want Harry to grow up not knowing any of his family or relatives, so he left him at his aunt and uncles house. Another possible reason would be questions Harry might want the answer to, example would be the scar on his forehead or what happend to his parents and maybe later on when he gets abit older, he will ask about the odd occurence going around him.

Statements from Harry.
"You should always support your friends" I disagree with this statement because supporting your friends could mean supporting them on anything, meaning you could support their decision to steal something from a store. You could support their decision to do drugs. You shouldn't always support your friends decision if it isn't smart.

What is a hero?
A real life hero is someone who fights for what they believe is right. They speak their mind and tell their world their opinion. I'm sure they have a second thought on critizisim and side comments from the people, but a real hero would do it for those who have the same thought and agree with what they are spreading across nations, "critizisim" is just a word that they pay close attention to if needed, but it ussually isn't something they care for. They just want to grab the attention of the people and show that they are trying to make a difference in the world or country. A real hero makes a difference, even if it's small. They show they care about what is advertised revolving around society and the people. They are hero's.

Research of the police community.
Specific duties for a police officer would be to enforce the law, protect people and land forms, patrolling an area or neighborhood, handling crime situations, arrest people who broke the law (DUI, drug abuse, speeding etc.),escort prisoners to their federal prison or to their cells (out of court), maintain custody, police officers act as security in airports and border lines etc. Police officers have many duties to protect and make the city as safe as it can be.
I would not want to be a police officer because it is not a job that i would want to do when i'm older. I don't know yet if i would want to do a "at risk" job. My drive is to become a nurse. http://www.hamiltonpolice.on.ca/hps/

Dear Dad,
There’s not a day where I don’t think of you. The memories are being nurtured and kept in my heart. It’s difficult without you here. I listen to Mom and help her out alot. Sometimes Sam and Maddy do also but they are really distracting, along with the Kiefer, and Karl. Having four siblings in the same house is crazy (Thanks Dad). Since you left, it's changed, but in a way where everybody is more sensitive. You're not missing anything that you didn't witness. Just really silent and quiet. Without you there’s no laughter, the house is silent, haunted with past memories, and cherished deep in our hearts. I miss you a lot, more than anything. I’m not the only one who misses you but everyone in the family misses you. I’ll try my very best to make you proud. I’ll try my best to help with Mom (who is struggling a lot). I’ll try my best to be the one who take the intuitive. I’ll always be thinking of you and hoping and praying you will arrive home safe and sound. I love you and miss you lots.
Love, Ryan (Isabel & Tutchonee)

"After Twenty Years"
Great, fantastic, suspenseful, mysterious. Only a few words to describe the short story. It was a really good written story. I followed through to it, absoutley attached. The story was very mind-boggleing. I was trying to figure out who "The man with the scar was". The end of the story put all the puzzle pieces together. I can say this story was the second best out of the short stories, other than "Thank you m'am".

Dealing with... Me? (Students) (not for school)
I'm a loud, crazy,rumour-spreading lunatic. This is me, this is who i am... I'm just me?
People think it's all about fitting in or being accepted. Truth is, this is as real as i get. I don't care for fitting in or acceptence.I can't change, believe me, i've tried. I had times where i sit in my room staring into my own eyes through a mirrior, wondering what i can change (physically and mentally). If i need to drop my pounds or maybe take off the glasses and pop my eyes with my new eyeshadow. I just stand there, silent, anxious, absurd. Looking for an answer. The next day i'll show up at school with my hair down, earring and some pink lip gloss. I would act girly and funky. Then the next day i'll wear red lipstick with messy hair and some
'rocker' neckalaces and bracelets. I would always change. But it's all about finding who you are in highschool. Appearence or not, you need to find you really are inside, what you like, what your personality like. Match your personality with your appearence. I'm bubbley,loud,crazy...:Eyeliner,hair up, studs. Easy as that.
I'm me, i'll always be me, nothings going to change. There will be improvements and thats it.
Dealing with myself was somthing i've struggled with for a long time. Dealing with how i look, comparing myself to that model in the magazine. Now i understand appearence isn't everything. And if it's anyone i will act or look like... It'll be me:)

Conflicts in "Thank You M’am"
In the short story "Thank you M’am" there are many types of conflict. To start of, Roger has a conflict with himself. Roger makes a decision to not steal for the second time. "The boy took care to sit…away from the purse" (Hughes 150). Also, Roger has a dilemma with Mrs. Jones. When Roger attempts to steal Mrs. Jones’ purse she "kicked him in his blue-jean sitter" (Hughes 146). In addition, he has an encounter with society. Roger has nobody to teach him right from wrong, or to not steal. When Mrs. Jones says "Aint you got nobody home?" he says "No’m" (Hughes 147). In conclusion there are three different types of conflicts in the short story" Thank you M’am".

Animal Rights... Stop animal cruelty!
Ever think of giving animal rights a second thought? Maybe it's not advertised enough, or not talked about much around your environment. I can tell you one thing. Avoiding the subject is not always the best solution. I know people know about it but they "THINK" they're to "busy" to even pay close attention to our animal resource. I understand why people don't support animal resource as much as we should. I used to be blind to the fact of animal cruelty. I didn't care about what happend outside of Ontario. I just cared about myself,my family and most of all my group of friends. It never occured to me that i could help out and be a supporter for campaigns of animal rights. Now i am aware of whats happening outside of my bubble. I'll make sure i'll support. :) And hopefully you'll open your eyes and realize it too.
After reading "The Dark Ones" I felt sad and sorry for everyone of those seals who were killed. It made me really think about what people actually do to animals for women and men. They kill seals for their skin or blubber to make cosmetics out of it. I started to think more and more. I thank the author for making the story tell it's story by a seal explaing the pain and hurt. Thanks to the author and book, for making me more aware and to support Animal Rights.

It's a grade nine tale
How fantastic was my first grade nine semester? It was beyond 'fantastic', it was above all my expectations and led out to be a great first semester. I'm not going to lie, at first I was terrified and worried about what teachers and students might think of my crazy, bubbly personality but most of all I was TERRIFIED of the exams ahead. From all the horror stories of how students tell their tale of the "THE exam" I wasn't too thrilled with the fact of being next in line along with many others to write an exam in four months. It was all to much for me, I was bitting my nails nervously in every class trying to focus on the work given. It was not what I wanted to do for the first week of grade nine. I thought to myself every morning through night, "Am I going to get through this year?" There were questions I needed answers to, but I knew I was the one to answer the questions, I already knew I am not the student who gets 80's or 90's in applied math or English, but I can work really hard and it will surely pay off in the end. Right then and there my mind was set on a goal for each period I had. I was for certain I was successfully motivated with goals in mind and possible colleges I might attend in four years from now.
It felt like everyday was getting better, meeting new people, working hard, getting along with my peers and most of all loving life and school. It wasn't later on until I witnessed all of my confidence and hard working slip away under the surface, I was mortified and embarrassed. I couldn't believe I thought I was doing so well and (BAM) I was doing absolutely horrible. Was I paying any attention to my classes? Were my marks dropping rapidly because of my blabber mouth and social life? YES, that was it, I was caught up in the "OMG, Josh said what?" instead of "Ms. Hanta I need help in algebra" Instead of focussing on how to plot y-intercepts, I thought I was doing great but I let friends and 'social-hangouts at lunch get in the way of school, and that should never happen. I had a cocky attitude with my classes I was attending. I became oblivious to the face I might be failing math. Like any other person (or not) I had to work my butt of for the one month I had to work hard and make an improvement. It payed off, but do I tell you, NEVER leave school after "social-life" it just doesn’t work that way. It sucked a lot, I have no time on weekends and no time after school to sit and watch televison. But I made it through.
The reason I enjoyed my first semester so much was because of my mistakes, they were obvious mistakes that didn't need to be made, I knew the consequences, but I choose to ignore them completely and be involved with friends instead of homework and study club. I am now fully aware of the time spent with friends and on school. On to my second semester I taught myself to be neat and organized to feel confident in every class. I now realize how to control my time and my social-life,to not get distracted anymore. Education is far more important then partying or going out late on weekdays, it's great to have some time for yourself but you also need to be strong willed and peer into your future and focus on making a decent life style That life style is being made in highschool. The first semester was great, I couldn't ask for a better semester. I learned and fought my way through but made it through. This is a tale that is to be shared. To inspire kids out there to work hard in school. Just because all of your friends go out everyday of the week and weekends, doesn’t mean you have to. Chances are they’re failing and not caring about education, and perchance you are doing well... Keep it that way!
